It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Béla Görög, a renowned signaling systems expert of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) and Honorary Master Instructor of our Department.
Béla was a defining figure of our community for several decades. He played an outstanding role in teaching the course he envisioned, “Design of Railway Signaling Systems,” as well as the “Block Signaling Systems” courses, which were previously managed by professor Hőgye and later carried forward by Béla. His teaching was characterized by professional excellence, dedication, and a sincere attentiveness and empathy toward his students. His lectures did more than just impart knowledge; they shaped perspectives, making the world of railway signaling understandable and beloved for generations of engineers.
His professional career was equally exemplary. He graduated in 1981 from the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering, specializing in Automation, Remote Control, and Telecommunications, after which he joined the Hungarian State Railways. Until 1993, he served as the Quality Control Group Leader at the Telecommunications and Signaling Construction Directorate. Following this, he became an expert, group leader, and eventually department head at the Signaling and Telecommunications (TEB) Center and its successor organizations. From 2003, he served as a key development expert within the Signaling Department of the MÁV TEB Directorate.
We feel his absence deeply. We will preserve his memory with respect and gratitude.
